Fatal Truck Crashes in Texas
Truck accidents in Texas claimed the lives of more than 500 people in 2021. Unfortunately, the size and weight of these vehicles mean that they are more likely to cause more significant damage to anything they come in contact with. There are several types of truck accidents that can impact the lives of others. These include:
- Head-on collisions.
- Sideswipe accidents.
- T-bone accidents.
- Underride accidents.
- Jackknife accidents.
- Rear-end accidents.
Although any accident has the potential to cause serious damage, we see many people lose their lives as a result of rear-end truck accidents. There are several reasons why these accidents continue to take place at such an alarming rate. One of the leading causes is following too closely. When a truck is following another vehicle too closely, it doesn’t have enough time to stop in the event of sudden braking or another action. This can lead to a serious accident.
Another leading cause of rear-end truck accidents is distracted driving. Distracted driving takes a driver’s attention off the road and can have serious consequences. This can include actions like talking on the phone or texting, or even changing the radio station. Distracted driving is dangerous because it increases the chances of not being able to stop in time if the vehicle ahead suddenly applies its brakes.
Speeding is also a leading cause of rear-end truck accidents. When a truck is speeding, it takes longer to stop than if it were traveling at the speed limit. This can be especially dangerous if the truck is following too closely or if there is traffic congestion ahead.
