Truck Accidents in Texas

Truck crashes take place every day in the state of Texas. Unfortunately, many of these accidents result in severe injuries for those involved. Although there are several ways that trucks can collide with other vehicles sharing the road, rear-end accidents are some of the most common and deadliest crashes reported on our roadways annually.

There are several reasons why rear-end collisions with trucks take place in our state. Leading factors include:

  • Distracted driving: When a driver takes their eyes off the road, even for a few seconds, they increase the risk of an accident occurring.
  • Speeding: When a driver is going too fast for road conditions, they may not have enough time to stop if traffic in front of them slows down or comes to a stop.
  • Following too closely: Tailgating is dangerous and increases the risk of being involved in an accident, especially with a semi-truck. The unfortunate truth is that trucks take up to 40% more time and distance to stop than other vehicles sharing the road. When a truck is following another vehicle too closely, it may not have time to stop if that vehicle brakes suddenly.
  • Poorly maintained vehicles: All vehicles need to be properly maintained in order to operate safely on the roads. If a truck’s brakes are not functioning properly, it increases the risk of an accident occurring. Inadequate maintenance is a common factor in truck accidents across the state.
