Representative Results
$51.13 Million Verdict — Anoxic Brain Injuries. Richard served as co-lead trial counsel for two minor children who sustained anoxic brain injuries from carbon monoxide poisoning. After a five-week trial resulting in a $51,130,000.00 verdict, the case resolved through a confidential post-verdict settlement. Richard was the attorney primarily responsible for the litigation for years leading up to the trial. At trial, he delivered the opening statement, the first closing argument, and conducted direct and cross-examinations of approximately half of the fact and expert witnesses, and conducted all depositions used at trial. He also handled most of the pretrial matters.
$13 Million Policy Limits Settlement (New Mexico) — Traumatic Brain Injury. Richard represented a teenager who sustained a traumatic brain injury and a severe injury to his arm due to a downed power line. Richard was the attorney primarily in charge and developed the case to expose the top officers of the defendant corporation, who actively attempted to destroy evidence and create a false narrative of how the incident occurred. Once this plot was exposed, the policy limits were immediately tendered.
$11.3 Million Policy Limits Settlement — Traumatic Brain Injury. Richard represented a family whose mother and father sustained permanent mild traumatic brain injuries and orthopedic injuries after a drunk driver ran a red light. Richard was the attorney primarily in charge and conducted all depositions in the case.
$7.06 Million Verdict and Judgment — Traumatic Brain Injury. Richard represented a man who sustained a permanent mild traumatic brain injury and shoulder injury in a rollover involving a commercial rock hauler where the initial police report originally blamed the injured Plaintiff. The jury found the Defendants overwhelmingly responsible and placed no fault on the Plaintiff. The verdict and judgment were ultimately enforced by the Texas Supreme Court after briefing. In addition to the full judgment, an additional $1.285 million in pretrial settlements with other defendants was also recovered. At trial, Richard delivered the opening statement and closing argument, conducted direct and cross-examinations of approximately half of the witnesses, handled all pretrial hearings, and conducted all depositions used at trial.
Beyond these representative matters, Richard has obtained at least 41 seven and eight-figure results through verdicts and settlements in cases where he was the attorney primarily responsible for the litigation and served as lead or co-lead trial counsel when the case proceeded to trial. This record does not include numerous matters earlier in his career in which he contributed to significant recoveries in a supporting role.
Richard graduated from The University of Texas School of Law in 2011, where he served as a co-leader of the Christian Legal Society. Before law school, he directed a Christian student ministry and a center serving troubled teens.
Among other professional honors, Richard was invited to become a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, an honor recognizing outstanding contributions to the legal profession and commitment to the community. The honor is extended annually to approximately 1/3 of 1% of Texas attorneys.
Richard is happily married and the proud father of three children.
