Fatal Auto Accidents in Oklahoma

Fatal accidents involving semi-trucks continue to take place frequently in our state. Unfortunately, many of these accidents could be prevented if drivers were more responsible when it comes to operating their vehicles. We see countless people die as a result of negligence. Leading factors include:

  • Driver fatigue: Drivers who are behind the wheel for long hours can become drowsy, which can lead to serious accidents. To combat driver fatigue, it’s important for commercial drivers to get enough rest and take breaks when needed.
  • Distracted driving: When drivers take their eyes off the road, even for a few seconds, they can miss something important and cause an accident. To avoid distracted driving, drivers should put away their phones and other distractions before getting behind the wheel.
  • Poor vehicle maintenance: If a truck’s brakes aren’t properly maintained, for example, it can lead to brake failure and a serious accident. That’s why it’s so important for fleet owners and operators to keep up with preventative maintenance on their vehicles.
  • Inclement weather conditions: If a driver isn’t careful in bad weather conditions, they can easily lose control of their vehicle and cause an accident. That’s why it’s important for drivers to slow down and exercise caution when driving in rain, snow, and other bad weather.

Regrettably, these and other factors continue to contribute to fatal pedestrian accidents every year in our state.
